Montpelier Water Party

Montpelier Hosts Water Party

Every year since 2005 the Village of Montpelier has hosted the “Montpelier Water Party” for the fourth grade students of the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools. The “Montpelier Water Party” is an all day event that teaches the students about how people, plants, and animals use water, how and why we need to protect water, how we can stay safe boating, how we drain the water out of our county, what an aquifer is, and how we take the water from the local aquifer and use it to supply potable water for the Village of Montpelier.

Josh Fritsch & Bill Blakely
The presenters are professionals in their field of expertise. We have had people from the following organizations help: Montpelier Water Treatment Plant, Montpelier Wastewater Treatment Plant, Williams County Drainage Department, Montpelier Park Department, St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative, Watson Well Drilling, Montpelier Fire Department, City of Bryan Water Treatment Plant, Fulton County Soil and Water, Defiance County Soil and Water, Williams County Soil and Water, Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Natural Resources. They use a lot of hands-on experiments and visual aids to assist them in helping to convey their point. We use local professionals to help express the ideas so that the kids could see that water conservation is “real” and not just something in a book.
The kids that have come in the past have loved the opportunity to get to learn about water from local professionals.   They love the hands-on things that they get to do.  They also like the fact that they get to get out of school for a day.
We try to make this day as fun as we can and still make it educational. We feel that this program will be an asset to our community and create awareness with the students about water conservation and quality issues. It will also allow some of the professionals to interact with students that they otherwise may not have the chance to work with. We hope this program will excite students to learn more about water conservation and quality issues and to take a more active role in these issues in our community. I would like to thank all of the people that have made this event such a success.
