About the Department
The Montpelier Police Department provides 24 hour law enforcement and emergency services to all persons that are living, working or visiting the Village. Currently the Montpelier Police Department is the third largest law enforcement agency in Williams County, serving roughly 5,000 residents. The department currently has 8 full-time officers, 1 administrative assistant, 1 Chaplin and 11 Reserve Officers.
Our working philosophy is based upon the principals of community policing. This simply means involving ourselves in the community in which we serve. By doing this, we are giving the community an opportunity to be directly connected with the department. Also, MPD takes great pride in being able to give back to the community. Many officers are involved in various community services such as; youth & senior programs, HOST mentoring, in-service trainings, RAD trainings, church programs, Crime Stoppers and Neighborhood Watch.
There are 4 different ranks within the Montpelier Police Department. The department uses a para-military structure with the Chief of Police as the department commander
